Check the units before recording
Open Share classes, find Stock splits, and select Record split. Have the approved ratio and effective date available. Save a company backup before recording a significant restatement.
The split restates stored quantities and per-share amounts across the company. If you are entering a split after the fact, check whether any securities or valuations have already been entered in post-split units. The app restates those records too, so mixing units can apply the same adjustment twice. Review the warning for records dated after the split.
Enter the ratio and effective date
Enter how many new shares replace the old shares. Use whole numbers on both sides: 2 for every 1 doubles quantities, while 1 for every 10 reduces them to one tenth. A factor of 1.5 is entered as 3 for every 2.
The effective date must be today or earlier because the app restates the working records as soon as the split is recorded. This workflow does not schedule a future split.
Review quantities, prices, and rounding
The preview compares outstanding shares, fully diluted shares, plan reserves, and the recorded valuation per share where available. Quantities scale with the ratio, while per-share prices scale inversely. A 2-for-1 split would turn 10,000 options at a $2 strike into 20,000 options at a $1 strike, assuming no rounding.
The app also adjusts relevant class terms and recorded valuations. SAFE and note principal amounts are monetary balances, so they do not multiply with the share count.
Whole-share rounding can add or remove units, particularly in a reverse split. Review the reported difference. The app does not model cash paid in place of fractional shares, so reconcile any such payment separately.
Record and verify both sides of the date
Select Record split after reviewing the preview. A restore point is taken before the operation. Check the resulting securities, prices, plan reserves, and split history.
Use the as-of cap table to inspect a date before the split and the effective date itself. Earlier dates read in pre-split units. Without rounding or another transaction, a proportional split changes unit counts while leaving ownership percentages unchanged. See the SEC’s stock split explanation for the basic concept.
