Set company details and currency

Edit a company profile, distinguish companies with similar names, and understand how currency settings affect amounts and exports.

On this page

Edit the selected company

  1. Check the company selector, then open Settings.
  2. In the Company section, choose Edit, or Set up if there is no profile.
  3. Enter the company name, entity type, jurisdiction, incorporation date, and currency.
  4. Choose Save profile and verify the name and currency shown in Settings.

The company name is required. Entity type and jurisdiction are descriptive fields; entering them does not configure a jurisdiction-specific legal regime. The incorporation date is distinct from the dates on individual securities.

Use one currency for company amounts

The company currency controls monetary labels and formatting for prices, principal, valuation caps, valuations, and proceeds. It does not apply exchange rates or change recorded numbers. Changing a profile from USD to CAD leaves a recorded amount of 100,000 as 100,000.

Choose the currency before entering or importing monetary records. If the source documents use several currencies, establish a consistent reporting basis outside the app and retain the original amounts and conversion evidence with those documents. Do not change the currency selector to translate a cap table.

Numeric entry uses a decimal point, regardless of currency. Enter 1,500.50 or 1500.50, not 1.500,50. See Dates, numbers, and rounding.

Distinguish company workspaces

A new company is a separate empty cap table under the same Puter account. Use the company selector or Settings → Companies → Create to add one. Edit its profile after creation to complete the details.

Two companies can have the same name, including a company created from an imported backup. Settings shows creation information and marks the active company. Check those details, then give copies distinct names before editing or deleting them. Renaming a company does not combine its records with another company.

If creation succeeds but naming fails, the creation dialog offers a retry to finish naming that same company. Inspect the company list before creating another copy.

Check the units on exported reports

Cap table and holdings exports identify the company currency. Retain that label when copying figures into another document. A common symbol such as $ is not enough to distinguish USD, CAD, or AUD.

The Rule 701 report compares recorded amounts with US-dollar thresholds without currency conversion and displays a warning for a non-USD company. Changing the profile label does not establish a valid USD comparison. Review the report’s scope and inputs before using it.
